Rep. Kevin Kiley, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 3rd district, has taken to social media to share his recent legislative initiatives and concerns on various issues. Having replaced John Garamendi in 2023, Kiley brings a background of public service from his tenure in the California State Assembly.
On June 16, 2025, Rep. Kiley announced that he is “introducing legislation to cut off funding and tax-exempt status for ‘nonprofits’ that organize riots.” He specifically mentioned CHIRLA, a group accused of tracking ICE agents and providing rioters with their real-time locations while receiving $34 million in public funding.
The following day, June 17, 2025, Kiley addressed the issue of excessive screentime among teenagers. He noted that “the average teenager spends 8.5 hours on their phone every day,” which has led to negative educational and mental health consequences for a generation unfamiliar with life without smartphones. In response, he held a hearing focused on examining solutions to this problem within schools.
On June 18, 2025, Rep. Kiley shared alarming statistics regarding community college applications in California: “one-third of community college applications…are fake,” primarily used for financial aid fraud. Following communication with the Secretary of Education, new identity verification requirements are being implemented by the Department.
Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. A Harvard University graduate with a BA earned in 2007 and a JD from Yale University, he continues to focus on legislative measures impacting education and public policy.
