Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, announced on January 22, 2026, that the House of Representatives passed his proposal to make California High-Speed Rail permanently ineligible for federal funding.
In a post dated January 22, Kiley stated: “The House of Representatives just passed my proposal to make California High-Speed Rail permanently ineligible for federal funding. The measure passed in an overwhelming bipartisan vote as part of an appropriations bill that will soon be signed into law.”
On January 23, Kiley addressed concerns about state spending and alleged fraud in California: “The staggering fraud in California is indeed ‘obvious.’ $24 billion was spent on homelessness and we got more homeless. $18 billion was spent on High-Speed Rail and we got no track. And we already know about the $32.6 billion in verified unemployment fraud.”
Later the same day, he commented on Governor Gavin Newsom’s absence from a speaking role at the World Economic Forum’s USA House: “Newsom wasn’t allowed to speak at the World Economic Forum’s USA House, perhaps because his economic record is abysmal. California has the nation’s highest cost-of-living and highest unemployment. After promising 3.5 million new homes, Newsom has delivered around 500,000.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd District in Congress since replacing John Garamendi in 2023. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale Law School.
