Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023 and a former member of the California State Assembly, has raised concerns on social media regarding free speech, the conduct of Governor Gavin Newsom, and recent state legislation.
On September 20, 2025, Kiley posted about congressional responses to alleged censorship by the Biden Administration. He wrote: “Many newfound champions of free speech in Congress were silent as the Biden Administration engaged in censorship on an industrial scale. As Mark Zuckerberg said: ‘The White House repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor.'”
Later that day, Kiley addressed what he described as inappropriate language by Governor Gavin Newsom. In his post, he stated: “Governor Newsom’s pattern of threatening and violent language against public officials is beyond irresponsible. It warrants the condemnation of all decent Americans.” This statement comes amid ongoing debates about political rhetoric and its impact on public discourse.
On September 21, 2025, Kiley criticized a new law signed by Governor Newsom concerning face coverings for federal officers. He commented: “The Governor who forced two-year-olds to wear masks all day and even promoted ‘double-masking’ just signed a law forbidding federal officers from covering their faces to protect themselves and their families. Newsom’s law, of course, is blatantly unconstitutional.”
Kiley’s comments are consistent with his background in both state and national government. He was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. Before entering Congress in 2023—succeeding John Garamendi—he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Kiley holds a BA from Harvard University (2007) and a JD from Yale University.
