Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district, has voiced criticism of California’s infrastructure spending and announced new legislative efforts to address gas taxes in a series of recent social media posts.
On April 9, 2026, Kiley commented on the cost of the California High-Speed Rail project, stating: “We’re now told that with ‘the right optimization,’ CA High-Speed Rail will cost $126 billion. So if everything suddenly goes perfectly we’ll spend 30 times what it cost to send Artemis II to the moon. Thankfully, we cut off all federal funding for this disastrous project.”
Later that day, Kiley announced proposed legislation aimed at reducing fuel taxes: “I’m introducing the Gas Tax Reduction Act to stop states like California from overtaxing their residents. Our gas tax is the highest in the country yet we drive on the worst roads. I’m also calling on CA lawmakers to suspend the gas tax in its entirety.”
On April 10, 2026, he reiterated his stance regarding state fuel taxes and road conditions: “This humiliating community note is not true of other states. The reality is Californians are being ‘ripped off’ by their own government. We pay the highest gas taxes yet drive over the deepest potholes. My Gas Tax Reduction Act will stop Newsom’s price gouging.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd congressional district since 2023 after previously serving in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. He was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. Kiley holds a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Yale University.
