Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023 and a former member of the California State Assembly, has used his social media platform to criticize current legislative practices and state policies in recent posts.
On December 12, 2025, Kiley addressed public dissatisfaction with Congress by stating, “Congress has a 15 percent approval rating, and it’s well-earned. We can start to rebuild trust by banning insider trading, ending gerrymandering, passing timely budgets (or no pay), and pro-actively solving problems rather than lurching from crisis to crisis.”
Later that day, he commented on an athletics policy decision involving the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District: “This is a new low. California is forcing Tahoe Truckee Unified to compete in CA instead of Nevada, despite this being impractical and unsafe for athletes whose seasons will move from Spring to Winter in a snowy area. The reason: Nevada doesn’t allow males in female sports.”
On December 13, Kiley criticized Governor Gavin Newsom’s approach to healthcare for undocumented immigrants: “If Newsom is so ‘proud’ of giving free healthcare to illegal immigrants, why did he end the policy? Because it was a disaster. Costs to taxpayers tripled to $10 billion in just one year. Meanwhile, California citizens on Medi-Cal couldn’t get a doctor’s appointment.”
Kiley’s statements reflect ongoing debates within both state and federal government about transparency in Congress and the implementation of state-level policies related to sports participation rules and healthcare coverage for undocumented residents.
Kevin Kiley began serving as U.S. Representative for California’s 3rd district after replacing John Garamendi in 2023. Before joining Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 through 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin at age 38, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
