Kevin Kiley, a current member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 3rd district, has been vocal on social media regarding various issues in California. On May 12 and 13, 2025, he posted a series of tweets addressing topics such as high-speed rail, Medicaid policy, and homelessness under Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration.
On May 12, Kiley critiqued the prospects of high-speed rail between Los Angeles and San Francisco. He stated that “Under the most wildly optimistic scenario, in 20 years High-Speed Rail will make a 6-hour trip from LA to SF possible using at least 3 different transit systems. Currently, direct flights from LA to SF take an hour.” This tweet underscores concerns about the feasibility and efficiency of proposed high-speed rail projects compared to existing air travel options.
Later that day, Kiley commented on Governor Gavin Newsom’s stance on Medicaid policies for undocumented immigrants. He tweeted that “Gavin Newsom says ending his policy of unlimited Med-Cal for illegal immigrants is ‘not on my docket,’ even though it has already made the program insolvent.” He emphasized his point by repeating that saving Medicaid from insolvency does not appear to be a priority for the governor.
On May 13, Kiley criticized another initiative by Governor Newsom aimed at addressing homelessness. He remarked that “Newsom just announced yet another homelessness ‘plan.’ He already squandered $24 billion as the homeless population exploded.” Furthermore, he pointed out that Newsom’s original “10-year plan” to end homelessness in San Francisco is now two decades old without achieving its goals.
Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. A Harvard University graduate with a BA and a JD from Yale University, he began serving California’s 3rd District in Congress after replacing John Garamendi in 2023. Prior to this role, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022.
