Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and a former member of the California State Assembly, has used his social media platform to criticize Governor Gavin Newsom and call for direct federal relief for Los Angeles residents.

On December 10, 2025, Kiley posted: “Newsom’s antics have been the biggest obstacle to a relief package for LA. I’m urging House Leadership to ignore our obnoxious Governor and get relief directly to the victims.”

Later that day, he added another critique of Newsom’s leadership: “Newsom has called California ‘a model for the nation.’ The problem for him is that the nation wants nothing to do with that model. We rank #1 out of 50 in cost-of-living, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and illiteracy, among other dubious distinctions.”

Continuing his criticism into December 11, Kiley listed several financial controversies involving state projects: “$128 billion for a phantom bullet train $24 billion in homeless spending ‘lost’ $32 billion squandered in EDD fraud $650 million on a canceled 911 system A true model of efficiency.”

Kiley began serving in Congress in 2023 after replacing John Garamendi as representative of California’s 3rd district. He previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
