Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and a former member of the California State Assembly, has recently posted a series of tweets criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom’s handling of California’s economy and infrastructure projects.
On July 18, 2025, Kiley contrasted national economic indicators with those in California, stating: “The national economy is increasingly strong. Imagine what it would be without Newsom dragging us down. America: 4.1% unemployment, +1 million jobs, $3.15 gas, wages up, inflation down CA: 5.4% unemployment, negative job growth, $4.50 gas, wages stagnant”.
The following day, on July 19, he referenced statements by Governor Newsom regarding the state’s economic health: “Governor Newsom: ‘Our economy is thriving.’ Official government data: ‘California leads the nation in unemployment and poverty.'”
Later that same day, Kiley addressed legal actions related to the state’s high-speed rail project: “Newsom’s latest frivolous lawsuit aims to reverse our victory on High-Speed Rail, so he can keep getting billions while building nothing. Imagine wasting taxpayer dollars suing to defend the biggest waste of tax dollars in U.S. history.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd congressional district since 2023 after succeeding John Garamendi and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin at age 38, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
