Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd District since 2023, shared his views on several political issues through social media posts on July 2, 2025. Kiley, who has a background in law with degrees from Harvard and Yale, addressed topics including wildfire management in California and sanctuary city policies.
On July 2, 2025, Kiley criticized Governor Gavin Newsom for attempting to attribute responsibility for California’s wildfire management issues to him and former President Trump. He referenced an NPR investigation that reported Newsom had “slashed $150 million” from fire prevention efforts and overstated the number of acres treated by “an astounding 690%.”
Later that day, Kiley commented on legal developments concerning Los Angeles’ status as a sanctuary city. He noted that the Justice Department had filed a new challenge against these policies. According to Kiley, this move could signify “the beginning of the end for sanctuary policies”, which he claims are designed to benefit criminals and violate the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
In another post on July 2, Kiley addressed Governor Newsom’s coordination with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He pointed out that while Newsom boasted about coordinating with ICE “10,588 times”, the Sanctuary State policy is meant to restrict such actions for various criminal offenses. He further stated that individuals released under these policies have committed serious crimes.
Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and resides in Rocklin. His political career includes serving in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022 before his current role in Congress.
