Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and former California State Assembly member, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom’s policies and actions regarding redistricting and public safety funding.
On August 24, 2025, Kiley wrote: “Newsom is desperate for something to run on in 2028, because his record is the worst in America: number one in unemployment, homelessness, and poverty. That’s the purpose of his Redistricting Sham.
I have a bill to stop Newsom’s scheme and deflate his presidential launching pad.”
The following day, August 25, Kiley continued his criticism by stating: “Newsom has refused to fund Prop. 36, our initiative to Make Crime Illegal Again that voters passed in a landslide. Yet he’s found $250 million for his Redistricting Sham.
The safety of Californians is a much lower priority than his own political power.”
On August 26, Kiley escalated his rhetoric with another post: “No governor in modern American history has flagrantly defied the will of voters like Gavin Newsom. His Redistricting Sham is just the latest example.
But this time he’s trying to disenfranchise them for good.”
Kiley’s recent comments reflect ongoing tensions over redistricting efforts in California and the allocation of state funds. He alleges that Governor Newsom is prioritizing political strategy over voter-approved initiatives such as Proposition 36. Kiley refers to recent funding decisions as evidence that public safety ranks below political considerations for the governor.
Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and resides in Rocklin. He earned an undergraduate degree from Harvard University and a law degree from Yale University. Before joining Congress in 2023, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022.
