Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and former member of the California State Assembly, has voiced strong criticism on social media regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposed redistricting plan in California.
On August 18, 2025, Kiley posted: “This is a fight to save democracy in California. Two-thirds of voters oppose Newsom’s Redistricting Sham, yet he’s planning to trick them into giving him power they’ll never get back.
His stated goal is to make California ‘a whole lot bluer’ without having to win more votes.”
Later that day, he added: “The leaders of the State Senate and Assembly are supporting Newsom’s Redistricting Sham in return for him drawing them congressional districts to run in.
This blatant self-dealing is why Californians of all parties overwhelmingly oppose Newsom’s scheme.” He reiterated this message minutes later with another post: “The leaders of the CA Senate and Assembly are supporting Newsom’s Redistricting Sham in return for him drawing them their own congressional districts to run in. This blatant self-dealing is why Californians of all parties overwhelmingly oppose Newsom’s scheme.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd District in Congress since 2023 after replacing John Garamendi. Before his tenure in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985, Kiley resides in Rocklin and holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale Law School.
