Kevin Kiley, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, has voiced his criticisms regarding Governor Gavin Newsom’s policies through a series of tweets. With a background in law from Yale University and previous service in the California State Assembly, Kiley shares his perspectives on state spending and policy decisions.
On May 15, 2025, Kiley highlighted the financial implications of Governor Newsom’s policies on Medi-Cal for illegal immigrants. He stated that “By the time Newsom’s ‘freeze’ goes into effect, California will have spent $23 billion on Medi-Cal for illegal immigrants in just two years.” He called for an immediate end to what he described as a “disaster.”
Later that day, Kiley addressed the state’s budget concerns by noting the increase in yearly spending under Newsom’s administration. He tweeted, “Since taking office, Gavin Newsom has increased yearly spending from $197 billion to $322 billion.” He criticized attempts to blame former President Trump’s tariffs for the state’s budget deficit.
In another tweet posted on May 15, 2025, Kiley claimed victory over what he termed as Newsom’s “disastrous policy.” He remarked that he had set out to end the free Medi-Cal policy for illegal immigrants using all available tools in Congress. According to Kiley, “Yesterday, Newsom admitted defeat. He is sunsetting his own policy after 2 years and $23 billion.”
Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. His educational background includes a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Yale University.
