Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district, has voiced criticism of recent legislative actions and priorities in a series of posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on October 7, 2025.
In one post, Kiley commented on Governor Gavin Newsom’s decision regarding firefighter pay increases: “Newsom has vetoed a raise for firefighters, calling it too costly. Spending $300 million on gerrymandering is a much higher priority.” (October 7, 2025).
Later the same day, Kiley addressed the status of Congress during an ongoing government shutdown: “The House needs to return to session. It’s absurd to be cancelling weeks of legislative business when the government is shut down and Congress hasn’t enacted a budget in 19 months.” (October 7, 2025).
He also expressed opposition to Proposition 50 and raised concerns about election integrity: “Newsom is trying to rig an election that will rig all future elections. Vote NO on Prop. 50.” (October 7, 2025).
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd Congressional District since replacing John Garamendi in 2023. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley graduated from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later earned his Juris Doctor from Yale University.
