Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, has posted a series of statements on social media regarding recent controversies involving Governor Gavin Newsom and the state’s political processes.
On November 13, 2025, Kiley addressed federal corruption charges against Governor Newsom’s chief of staff, stating: “Yes, I’ll refrain from pre-judging the guilt of Governor Newsom’s chief of staff on federal corruption charges stemming from her time running his office. But implying this is a political prosecution overlooks the inconvenient fact that it began during the Biden Administration.”
Later that day, Kiley commented on legal action taken by the U.S. Department of Justice against California concerning Proposition 50: “The U.S. Department of Justice is suing California to block Newsom’s Prop. 50 map. This is appropriate. The overthrown Independent Commission was required to begin its map-drawing process by assuring no unlawful racial discrimination. Newsom’s map faced no such requirement.”
On November 14, 2025, Kiley criticized Governor Newsom’s handling of Proposition 36: “Newsom does have some expertise here. He led the opposition to Prop. 36 (Make Crime Illegal Again) and lost badly, as we passed it by a wider margin than any measure on the ballot. He then defied the will of voters and refused to fund it.”
Kiley has served in Congress since replacing John Garamendi in 2023 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale Law School.
