Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and a former member of the California State Assembly, has recently raised concerns about several actions taken by Governor Gavin Newsom and his administration in a series of tweets posted between July 21 and July 23, 2025.
On July 21, Kiley alleged that Governor Newsom was attempting to dismantle California’s Citizens Redistricting Commission. In his post, he stated: “Gavin Newsom is plotting to abolish California’s voter-approved Citizens Redistricting Commission, seize its powers for himself, and relegate Republicans to just 3 congressional seats out of 52. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
The following day, Kiley commented on an upcoming report regarding the state’s COVID-19 response: “A ‘lengthy report’ will soon be released on the Newsom Administration’s ‘overall response to COVID-19.’ Conveniently, the report was done by the Newsom Administration itself. This rewriting of history won’t mention: longest school closures, only K-12 vaccine mandate, 5 Supreme”
On July 23, Kiley addressed the allocation of funds from a recent charity event: “Of the $100 million raised at the celebrity ‘Fire Aid’ concert, none actually went to LA fire victims. Instead the money went to nonprofits, many having nothing to do with fire relief. I’ve asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to open an investigation.”
Kiley has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Garamendi. He previously represented constituents in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale Law School.
