Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district, has used his social media platform to comment on recent political developments in California and national events. In a series of posts from September 13 to September 15, 2025, Kiley addressed issues ranging from the state’s high-speed rail funding to what he described as a national tragedy involving the execution of a political leader.
On September 13, Kiley criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom and the legislative supermajority for their continued support of the state’s high-speed rail project: “Newsom and the Supermajority just signed off on another $20 billion for High-Speed Rail. But here’s the catch: it’s over 20 years. This ‘deal’ is simply a refusal to admit defeat after we stopped all federal funding. The next governor will kill the project.”
The following day, Kiley responded to a violent incident affecting a prominent political figure, calling it both an American and human tragedy: “The horror of this past week is a human tragedy and an American tragedy. A political leader with millions of followers was executed in broad daylight while engaged in the purest form of expression in a democracy. This was an attack on our whole country.” (September 14).
On September 15, Kiley again targeted Governor Newsom’s budget priorities: “Newsom is spending nearly $300 million in taxpayer funds to gerrymander California and give himself a platform to run for President. Meanwhile, he’s cutting support for foster kids and refusing to fund Prop. 36.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd Congressional District since 2023 after succeeding John Garamendi; prior to his tenure in Congress, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 through 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985, Kiley resides in Rocklin and holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD). His background informs his ongoing engagement with both state policy debates and national events.
