Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district, has voiced criticism of Governor Gavin Newsom’s approach to unemployment and redistricting in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) published on August 20 and 21, 2025.

On August 20, Kiley commented on California’s latest unemployment figures: “We’ve just learned one state out of fifty had its unemployment rate increase last month: California. And we already ‘led’ the nation. This is why Newsom is desperate for the distraction of his Redistricting Sham.” He implied that Governor Newsom was using redistricting as a distraction from economic issues.

Later that day, Kiley questioned the validity of polling data related to Newsom’s proposed redistricting changes. In his post he wrote: “Newsom just released a poll suggesting 57% of voters support his Redistricting Sham. But Politico’s poll shows 64% against it. The difference is fraud. Newsom is testing ballot language designed to fool people into thinking Yes is No.”

The following day, August 21, Kiley addressed election integrity and gerrymandering concerns: “When elections are fair, Republicans win. That’s why we should end gerrymandering and establish Voter ID nationwide. And it’s why Newsom is trying to permanently rig our elections by making himself Gerrymanderer-in-Chief.”

Kiley has represented California’s 3rd congressional district since replacing John Garamendi in 2023 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985, he currently resides in Rocklin and holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
