Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district and former member of the California State Assembly, has used his social media platform to criticize Governor Gavin Newsom’s healthcare policies and recent election management in California.
On September 30, 2025, Kiley posted on X: “That Newsom wants to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants is not speculation. He literally drove Medi-Cal insolvent by doing precisely that. The program cost California taxpayers $23 billion over 2 years, forcing Newsom to get both an emergency loan and a bailout.”
The following day, October 1, 2025, he addressed issues surrounding Proposition 50: “I am calling for Prop. 50 to be rescheduled to abide by existing statutory and constitutional timelines. This latest outrageous error will cost millions to correct. A banana-republic style ‘election’ based on misinformation and voter suppression will do grave damage to our state.”
On October 2, 2025, Kiley reiterated his criticism of the state’s healthcare policy: “Here’s what’s not debatable when it comes to healthcare for illegal immigrants. Gavin Newsom gave them free Medicaid. The cost ballooned to $9.5 billion just for year one. And it drove the system insolvent. After we introduced our reforms, Newsom ended his insane policy.”
Kiley has represented California’s 3rd District in Congress since replacing John Garamendi in 2023 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 until 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
