Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, used his social media account on October 8, 2025, to criticize California Governor Gavin Newsom’s spending priorities and comment on state and federal political developments.

In a post published at 16:03 UTC, Kiley wrote: “Things Newsom has deemed too costly: a raise for firefighters, support for foster kids, funding Prop. 36. Things Newsom has all the money in the world for: gerrymandering, healthcare for illegal immigrants, a nonexistent high-speed train.”

Later the same day at 16:39 UTC, Kiley commented on Congresswoman Katie Porter’s political prospects, stating: “Katie Porter is the natural successor to Newsom. It’s unclear what would be left of our state if she won.”

Addressing federal legislative matters at 18:02 UTC, Kiley posted about recent Congressional activity: “No, what the House has done is pass a 7-week Continuing Resolution. The entire reason a CR is necessary is that Congress has not done its job in passing a timely budget. The Speaker shouldn’t even think about cancelling session for a third straight week.”

Kiley, who was born in Sacramento in 1985 and resides in Rocklin, previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022 before being elected to Congress. He holds a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Yale University. He succeeded John Garamendi as representative of California’s 3rd district.
