Kevin Kiley, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, has expressed his concerns regarding several issues in California through a series of tweets. A former member of the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022, Kiley continues to voice his opinions on state policies and leadership.
On May 7, 2025, Kevin Kiley criticized Governor Gavin Newsom for his decision to ban gas-powered cars amidst what he described as “the worst wildfire in state history.” Kiley claimed that after years of neglecting forest management, Newsom blamed California drivers for exacerbating wildfires by stating that their cars “make wildfires worse.” He noted that the House had rebuked Newsom’s decision in a bipartisan vote. “Newsom announced his insane gas-car ban in the midst of the worst wildfire in state history. After neglecting our forests for years, he blamed California drivers for the catastrophe, saying our cars ‘make wildfires worse.’ The House just rebuked Newsom in a bipartisan vote.”
In another tweet dated May 8, 2025, Kiley criticized Governor Newsom’s approach to high-speed rail development in California. He argued that Newsom’s vision involved an exorbitant expenditure of $130 billion over a century to build a train system already established by other countries at much lower costs. Kiley mentioned introducing legislation aimed at terminating this project. “Newsom defines ‘dreaming big’ as taking 100 years and spending $130 billion to build the type of train other countries mastered decades ago at a fraction the cost. I’ve introduced legislation to end this nightmare for Californians.”
On May 9, 2025, Kiley addressed issues faced by Los Angeles residents who have suffered from political decisions impacting their ability to rebuild homes destroyed by disasters. He lamented that ineffective political leadership not only led to the destruction but also hindered reconstruction efforts. This experience is one shared by many Californians according to Kiley. “The victims in LA are discovering that the same failed political leadership that led to the destruction of their homes is also making it impossible to rebuild those homes. Sadly, this has been the experience of far too many Californians.”
Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento, California in 1985 and currently resides in Rocklin. He holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale University.
