Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023, has used his social media platform to comment on recent developments regarding redistricting and California’s fiscal situation.

On November 19, 2025, Kiley addressed ongoing legal challenges to congressional maps in Texas and California. He stated, “Here’s where things stand in the foolish redistricting games. A federal court has tossed the Texas map, with an appeal going straight to the Supreme Court. California’s Prop. 50 map is being challenged under a similar legal theory, with a hearing set for Dec. 3. We don’t know how”.

Later that day, he commented on congressional actions related to these redistricting efforts: “Congress could have blocked Newsom’s Prop. 50 scheme but failed to act. Apparently it was more important to let Texas gerrymander than to stop Newsom. And now, ironically, the new Texas map has been struck down.

My legislation, HR 4889, could still restore California’s old map.”

On November 20, Kiley referenced remarks from California’s Legislative Analyst about the state’s financial condition: “California’s Legislative Analyst just provided some great talking points for Newsom’s presidential campaign:

-The state has an $18 billion deficit, ‘larger than anticipated.’

-There has literally been ‘no payroll job growth in the state so far this year.’

-This is the ‘fourth”.

Kiley’s comments come amid ongoing national debates over redistricting practices and fiscal management in large states such as Texas and California. He replaced John Garamendi as representative of California’s 3rd district in 2023 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently residing in Rocklin, Kiley holds degrees from Harvard University (BA) and Yale University (JD).
