Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district since 2023 and a former member of the California State Assembly, has posted a series of tweets criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent statements and state policies.

On July 15, 2025, Kiley shared his response to Governor Newsom’s comments regarding population trends in the state. He wrote, “Newsom just declared the California Exodus a ‘myth.’ Below is California’s rank in the U-Haul Growth Index for each year of his governorship, with 50th place meaning ‘the largest net loss of one-way movers.’

2024: 50th
2023: 50th
2022: 50th
2021: 50th
2020: 50th
2019: 49th”.

A day later, on July 16, Kiley continued his criticism by addressing the governor’s pandemic response. He stated, “An absurd rewrite of history. Newsom kept everything closed longer than every other state. He ordered the longest shutdown of schools, business, churches. He banned things no one else did: bowling, youth sports, swimming, playgrounds, outdoor dining. We’re still paying the price.”

Later that same day, Kiley commented on recent local government actions in Los Angeles concerning cash payments to undocumented immigrants affected by ICE operations. In his tweet he said, “LA is now giving cash payments to illegal immigrants supposedly ‘impacted’ by ICE operations.

The Mayor’s claim that this is privately funded is false. The cash cards will be given out by the ‘nonprofit’ CHIRLA, which received $34 million in taxpayer funding.”

Kevin Kiley was born in Sacramento in 1985 and currently lives in Rocklin. Before joining Congress to represent California’s 3rd district after John Garamendi’s departure in 2023, he served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Kiley holds a BA from Harvard University and a JD from Yale University.
