Kevin Kiley, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 3rd district, has voiced strong opposition to Proposition 50 and the indefinite recess of the House of Representatives in a series of posts on his social media account.
On October 14, 2025, Kiley criticized the messaging of campaigns surrounding Proposition 50 by stating, “The Yes on 50 campaign says ‘gerrymandering is bad, so vote for more gerrymandering.’ No on 50 says, ‘gerrymandering is bad, so vote against gerrymandering.’ One of these positions is more logical than the other.”
Continuing his stance the following day, Kiley emphasized the impact of gerrymandering on democracy and encouraged voter participation. On October 15, 2025, he posted: “Gerrymandering is a plague on democracy. Voting NO on Prop. 50 is our chance to eradicate it from our state. Over 1 million ballots have already been cast. Don’t forget to return yours!”
In another post dated October 16, 2025, Kiley addressed the importance of representative government and expressed concern about the House of Representatives’ failure to convene: “Representative government was the great gift of our Founders. When the House of Representatives refuses to convene indefinitely, Americans are deprived of it. I don’t think this is a controversial statement.”
Kiley has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Garamendi and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022. Born in Sacramento in 1985 and residing in Rocklin, he holds degrees from Harvard University and Yale Law School.
