Pacific Gas & Electric Co. broke ground on its Momentum substation project in West Placer County on April 10. The new facility is designed to support future development in the area, including new housing, a senior living center, and the CSU Sacramento Placer Center. The Placer Center will also function as a Sierra College transfer center within the PlacerOne development.
The Momentum substation aims to improve power reliability for current customers and accommodate increasing demand by serving more than 5,600 homes and businesses. According to Pacific Gas & Electric Co., the first transformer is expected to be operational by December 2027, with a second transformer planned for December 2028.
Placer County Board of Supervisors Chair Shanti Landon attended the groundbreaking ceremony alongside U.S. Representative Kevin Kiley and other regional leaders. “The PG&E substation groundbreaking is an important catalyst for the future of western Placer County,” Landon said. “It will ensure grid reliability for existing residents, support economic development, prepare us for long-term demand and is critical for business attraction. I’m thankful that this important step is now underway.”
The project reflects ongoing efforts to address infrastructure needs as West Placer experiences continued population growth and economic expansion.
