Placer County and the Northstar Community Services District will celebrate the completion of a new segment of the Martis Valley Trail with a public ribbon cutting ceremony on June 3 at noon at the new trailhead near the Northstar Preferred Parking Lot.

The newly completed Segment 3F closes a mile-long gap between Northstar’s Castle Peak parking lots and Northstar Village, expanding the paved Class 1 trail system that connects the Town of Truckee to one of the region’s popular recreation destinations. Residents and visitors have already been using a previously completed 4.6-mile section since it opened in August 2022. The latest addition, measuring 1.23 miles, improves connectivity, access, and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists traveling through Martis Valley.

“This project represents decades of collaboration and shared vision,” said Placer County Parks Administrator Erika Seward. “We’re deeply grateful for the hard work put forth by the Northstar Community Services District and the collaboration with our Placer County teams to see this project come to fruition.”

The celebration takes place just days before National Trails Day on June 6. Organizers say this timing is meaningful for both project partners and community members.

The Martis Valley Trail is designed to serve families, commuters, recreational cyclists, and visitors, and supports North Lake Tahoe’s goals for sustainable recreation, mobility, and environmental stewardship. The project was funded with approximately $10 million in transient occupancy tax funding through the TOT-TBID Dollars at Work program. Additional partners include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washoe Tribe, Truckee Donner Land Trust, and Northstar California Resort.

Members of the public are invited to attend the June 3 event to experience this newest section of trail.
