The Placer County Board of Supervisors approved on April 7 a $61.6 million construction contract for Phase I of the Placer Parkway project, which will connect state Route 65 at the Whitney Ranch Parkway interchange with a six-lane road to North Foothills Boulevard.
The board awarded the contract to A. Teichert & Son Inc. of Roseville, identified as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Placer Parkway has been described as a regional transportation priority for decades, intended to serve rapidly growing communities in the county and reduce traffic congestion on state Route 65, Interstate 80, and local roads. The completed expressway will span approximately 15 miles from SR-65 in West Placer to state routes 70/99 in south Sutter County, improving access to major corridors including I-5, downtown Sacramento, and Sacramento International Airport.
“Placer Parkway is a transformative investment in our region’s future,” said Board Chair and District 2 Supervisor Shanti Landon. “Awarding this contract moves us from planning to construction and brings us closer to relieving congestion, improving safety and supporting economic growth in western Placer County.”
Phase I will also include installation of a major waterline through partnership with the Placer County Water Agency to support future development in West Placer. The total estimated cost for Phase I is $90 million; funding sources include South Placer Regional Transportation Authority fees, contributions from the United Auburn Indian Community, funds from the Placer County Water Agency, and advanced county general fund contributions that are planned for repayment through future SPRTA fees collected from development.
In addition to awarding the main construction contract, supervisors also approved a separate $9.8 million agreement with Psomas related to work on the project.
