Placer County has reserved $725,000 from its new Launchpad program to support two workforce housing projects in Kings Beach, North Lake Tahoe. The funding will go toward a wheelchair-accessible accessory dwelling unit and a three-unit tiny home project.
The Launchpad program was approved by the Board of Supervisors in April 2025 with an initial budget of $1 million. Its goal is to help create new workforce housing units in eastern Placer County, specifically targeting the North Lake Tahoe region. Each funded unit comes with a 55-year deed restriction requiring occupancy by local workers, which automatically renews each time the property changes hands.
The county aims to make it easier for developers, residents, and landowners to build affordable housing for local workers through this initiative. “We’re excited to see these initial projects get off the ground and get started,” said Tahoe housing specialist Tim Cussen. “The program requires that projects be completed within two years from the time of this funding reservation, so we’ll see them established pretty quickly. There’s a lot of potential here to help our local workers find affordable housing options in North Lake Tahoe.”
County officials will oversee the progress of both projects during permitting and construction phases. Funding will only be distributed after project completion and once the deed restrictions are officially recorded.
There are plans for future funding rounds under the Launchpad program. The remaining $275,000 from the original allocation will be included in upcoming opportunities for additional workforce housing proposals.
