As Governor Gavin Newsom prepares to present his State of the State address and the proposed 2026-2027 budget, California Senate Republicans are calling for increased government accountability. They emphasize the need to prevent wasteful spending and deliver tangible results for residents.
Senator Roger Niello (R-Fair Oaks), who serves as vice chair of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee, stated: “As a result of the majority party’s spending habit, we will be faced with a deficit for the foreseeable future. There must be stronger accountability and management of existing funds so that we can address priorities that benefit Californians.”
Senate Republican Leader Brian Jones (R-San Diego) added: “Governor Newsom’s speech will highlight a lot of claimed wins, but Californians see the lack of results every day. Year after year, his policies have pushed opportunity out of state while driving the cost of living to ever new heights for working families. Californians deserve a government that uses their tax dollars to fix the quality of life in this state, not fund the governor’s vanity projects.”
Last month, Senate Republicans outlined their budget priorities with an emphasis on achieving measurable outcomes.
