Senator Roger Niello, who serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Budget Committee, responded to the release of The 2026-27 Budget: California’s Fiscal Outlook by the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO) on November 19, 2025.

In his statement, Senator Niello said: “This is good news and worse news. Yes, the revenues are up, but the state’s spending is even higher.”

The LAO’s fiscal outlook report provides an analysis of California’s budgetary situation for the upcoming fiscal year. While it notes an increase in state revenues, it also highlights that expenditures continue to outpace income. This trend could present challenges for lawmakers as they work to balance future budgets.
