On August 29, the Assembly and Senate Appropriations Committees reviewed numerous legislative proposals with financial implications as part of their respective “Suspense Files.” The fate of these bills depends on the cost thresholds set by funding sources in the state budget. Only those that meet the criteria advance to the next stage in the legislative process during this first year of a two-year cycle.
State Senator Roger Niello announced that two of his measures placed on the Assembly Suspense File have moved forward. One of these is Senate Bill 568, which seeks to extend the requirement for public schools to have epinephrine available to all school programs, including preschools.
“In 2014‚ the Legislature passed and the Governor signed Senate Bill 1266 authored by Senator Bob Huff‚ which required epinephrine in public schools. That measure has ensured that our school health professionals have the medication on hand to provide lifesaving treatment. My bill provides the necessary clarification to this requirement so that our public schools and their programs are prepared to assist any student that may be in need of epinephrine,” Niello stated.
The progress of these bills means they will continue through further legislative consideration this year.
