Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congressman representing California's 3rd district, has recently shared his views on various political issues through a series of tweets. Kiley, who succeeded John Garamendi in 2023 and previously served in the California State Assembly, expressed criticism towards California Governor Gavin Newsom and outlined plans to address what he perceives as failed policies.
On February 9, 2025, Kiley criticized Governor Gavin Newsom's handling of relief efforts for Los Angeles fire victims. He stated that "The biggest obstacle to getting relief to LA fire victims is Gavin Newsom. His refusal to accept any responsibility for failed policies and his decision to spend $50 million 'Trump-proofing' California are making the task more difficult."
In a tweet dated February 10, 2025, Kiley compared President Trump's approval ratings with those of Governor Newsom. He claimed that "President Trump's approval rating is currently 10 points better than Newsom's. Measured against the partisan baseline for the country and California, Trump's is 30 points better." He further suggested that there is a mandate to "Newsom-proof" the state.
On February 11, 2025, Kiley detailed his plan to "Newsom-proof" California by implementing several policy changes. He advocated for measures such as ending the Sanctuary State status, stopping Med-Cal for illegal immigrants, killing high-speed rail projects, requiring voter ID, enforcing Proposition 36, clearing homeless encampments, restoring parental rights, reversing electric vehicle mandates among others. In his words: "Our plan to Newsom-proof California is making him the ultimate lame duck."
