Roger Niello, a Republican from Fair Oaks, has been appointed to the Little Hoover Commission by the Senate Rules Committee. This committee is chaired by Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, a Democrat from Healdsburg. Senator Niello takes over from Scott Wilk, a Republican from Santa Clarita, who served on the Commission until his legislative term ended in 2024.
"It is both a privilege and a profound responsibility to be appointed to the Little Hoover Commission and contribute to its mission of improving state government. I am looking forward to collaborating with my fellow Commissioners to make a meaningful impact in shaping a government that addresses Californians’ needs," stated Senator Niello.
Niello has represented California's Sixth Senate District since 2022, covering parts of Placer and Sacramento Counties. His career began in 1974 when he joined his family's business, the Niello Auto Group, where he worked for 25 years managing retail automobile dealerships alongside family partners. In 1999, he was elected to the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors through a special election and later served in the California State Assembly starting in 2004 with two re-elections thereafter.
After concluding his Assembly service, Niello became President and CEO of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce. His extensive involvement includes roles such as President of Golden State Voter Participation and Chair of the Sacramento Valley Lincoln Club Board. He also co-chaired the California Civic Learning Partnership in Sacramento County and held positions on several advisory boards including those at University of California Center Sacramento and Dignity Health Sacramento Service Area Hospital Community Board.
In February 2011, Niello was named as University of California Center Sacramento Governance Fellow—the first individual appointed to this role. His academic credentials include an undergraduate degree from University of California at Berkeley and a Master's Degree from University of California at Los Angeles.
