Kevin Kiley, a U.S. Congress member representing California's 3rd district, expressed his views on several current issues in a series of tweets. Having served in the California State Assembly from 2016 to 2022, Kiley has been a voice on various policy matters. His recent tweets touch upon the Democrat Party's approval rating, California's high-speed rail project, and a legislative controversy involving Governor Gavin Newsom.
On March 27, 2025, Kiley commented on the Democrat Party's approval rating, which had reportedly "hit a record low of 27 percent." He attributed this to their stance as "antagonists of common sense." Moreover, he critiqued their empowerment of prominent party figures like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as well as the "disruptive tactics of radical far-left groups," questioning the strategy's effectiveness. "The Democrat Party's approval rating has hit a record low of 27 percent because they've become antagonists of common sense. Now, they're empowering Bernie and AOC while egging on the disruptive tactics of radical far-left groups. I doubt this helps their cause."
Later on the same day, Kiley addressed the ongoing challenges facing California's high-speed rail project. He cited a report from the Legislative Analyst indicating an additional $7 billion is needed by June, terming it an "immediate budget gap" with potential for further escalation. In response, Kiley announced his intention to introduce legislation to halt federal funding and terminate the project. "The CA High-Speed Rail disaster has somehow gotten even worse. The Legislative Analyst reports another $7 billion is needed by June. This is an 'immediate budget gap' that 'could grow.' I've introduced legislation to cut off all federal funding and end the project for good."
On March 28, 2025, Kiley criticized Governor Newsom for signing AB 1955, which mandates schools not to disclose a student's "gender identity" to their parents. Kiley argued that this law infringes on the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act and jeopardizes federal funding. He noted that California is under investigation following the bill's enactment. "When Newsom signed AB 1955, requiring schools to lie to parents about their child's 'gender identity,' I warned he was violating the Family Educational Rights Privacy Act and putting federal funding at risk. Sure enough, California is now under investigation."
